Not your traditional talk therapy

You know what happened.

But sometimes knowing isn’t enough to change how you feel.

There are times when the part of you that understands what is happening can feel miles away from the part of you that is actually experiencing it.

You may understand your patterns.
You may know where they came from.
You may even know what you want to do differently.

And yet, when something feels threatening, overwhelming, or uncertain, your body can respond before your thinking mind ever has a chance to catch up.

You shut down.
You overthink.
You become hyperaware of everyone else’s needs.
You pull away when you actually want connection.
You work harder, hold tighter, stay busy, or convince yourself you don’t need anything at all.

These responses aren’t signs that something is wrong with you.

At one point, they may have been exactly what helped you get through.

Your nervous system learned from what you experienced. It learned what to watch for, when to brace, when to disconnect, when to stay quiet, and when it wasn’t safe to let your guard down.

But a response that once protected you can eventually begin to shape a life that no longer feels like your own.

Healing isn’t just understanding your story.

It’s learning how to experience yourself differently within it.

Embodied therapy creates space to slow down enough to notice what is happening beneath the story.

Together, we explore the relationship between your experiences, your body, your emotions, your nervous system, and the ways you move through the world.

Rather than forcing yourself to “get over” what happened, we work toward developing a different relationship with what your body has learned to carry.

That might mean learning to recognize the moment you begin to leave yourself during conflict.

It might mean discovering what safety actually feels like in your body.

It might mean becoming more comfortable with boundaries, needs, vulnerability, or connection.

And sometimes, it means learning that you can be present with difficult emotions without allowing them to take over.

This is where the work becomes more than insight.

It becomes something you can actually feel and practice in your everyday life.

And this is where the horse can become part of the conversation.

Horses don’t need you to explain yourself.

They respond to what is happening in the moment — your presence, your energy, your movement, your tension, your approach, your ability to connect.

That creates a unique opportunity to notice yourself in relationship.

A horse may offer feedback that is immediate and honest without being judgmental.

You may begin to notice:

How do I approach connection?
What happens when I feel uncertain?
Do I move toward, away, or freeze?
Can I slow down enough to listen?
Can I stay connected without abandoning myself?
What happens when I communicate a boundary?
What does safety feel like when I don’t have to perform for it?

The horse isn’t there to “fix” you.

The horse becomes part of the therapeutic relationship — a living, responsive presence that can help bring what is happening internally into something you can notice, explore, and understand.

You don’t have to become a different person to heal.

You don’t have to become less sensitive.

Less emotional.

Less cautious.

Less deeply feeling.

The goal isn’t to erase the parts of you that learned how to survive.

It’s to help you develop enough safety, awareness, flexibility, and trust that those protective responses don’t have to run your life.

So you can pause instead of automatically reacting.

Stay present instead of disappearing from yourself.

Set a boundary without losing connection.

Allow yourself to need something.

Let yourself be seen.

Choose relationships that feel reciprocal and safe.

And begin making decisions from who you are now, rather than only from what you once had to survive.

Come back to yourself.

At Unbridled Roots Embodied Psychotherapy, therapy is about creating a deeper connection between your mind, body, relationships, and lived experience.

Through trauma-informed, somatic and equine-assisted approaches, we’ll work together to understand the patterns that have shaped you while building new ways of experiencing safety, connection, agency, and self-trust.

Because healing isn’t about becoming someone else or going back to who you ‘used to be’.

It’s about becoming more fully available for the life that is already yours to live.

Unbridled Roots Embodied Psychotherapy

Moving to steady, empowered living.

“Growing up with horses, I learned to understand the humbling and empowering nature of authentic connection; finding it at the intersection of my young, bull-headed attitude and half ton animals that loved to expose my vulnerabilities.

That shared, vulnerable relationship with horses, however, never ceased to bring peace in me during the challenging chapters of my life, fostering my belief in the healing power of such a grounded connection. Driving my pursuit to a career in the 'helping field',  my desire to share that same connection with others reminds me of my dad's advice when I was very young: "if you do nothing else each day, at the very least make at least one person smile." Now, decades later as a licensed clinician, I often find myself saying "therapy is just one human sharing space and taking the time to listen to another human." Simple, honest, and connected work, rooted in me since I was a little girl.

While serving as an active duty LCSW in the U.S. Army, I quickly recognized how resilient, but vulnerable most people are, no matter how hard of an exterior was built. No title, rank, age, race, gender, sex, profession, spiritual belief system, etc. is immune to the stressors of life that are meant to break us. It's the brokenness and search for healing that shows up differently on everyone, only exposing pieces of ourselves when we feel safe enough to do so.

Unbridled Roots Embodied Therapy is my life's work—a space born from God's blessing and my lifelong connection to both healing and horses. Rooted in trauma-informed care and guided by compassion and faith, my practice integrates authentic connection with somatic approaches, embodied psychotherapy, and horse guided experiences to help clients reconnect, heal, and achieve holistic attunement and self-agency, in a safe and grounded way.

No matter what road has led you to this moment today, I am so happy you're here and that our paths have crossed. You are capable, badass, wise, and worthy of living in peace and serenity. I'd be honored to walk this journey alongside you.”

With loving kindness,

-Tarah
